Beta Business Days, ehh what?!

BBD, ehh what?!
It is already my fifth year as a Francken member, but so far my active membership at Francken has been limited. Therefore I really like that I get the opportunity to share my experiences on joining the Beta Business Days (in short BBD) board. Except for the freshmen, most students have heard of the Beta Business Days. They are the annoying guys standing at the entrance of the Nijenborgh 4 in January and February. Each time you try to get to class in time or just want to go home they ask you for the 1000th time if you have already registered for the Beta Business Days. After a while you just try to ignore those people with their flyers and free gadgets. But wait a sec, what are those Beta Business Days all about? The Beta Business Days consists of two events: The pre-congress event in January and the main event in February. The main goals of the BBD are to help students of the whole faculty to develop themselves and to get insight in their future job perspectives (and certainly do not forget the free drinks after).

The life as a BBD board member
It all started in May as I received the great news that I was selected as the new treasurer, better known as Mister Money, of the BBD 2017 board. The first few months consisted of brainstorming, writing our policy plan and meeting lots of new people. And I mean really a lot of people. Eight study associations are connected to the BBD and two committees and an advisory board and a supervisory board … Well, you get the hang of it. But at the same time, this also makes the BBD a lot of fun. Before joining the BBD board, I left the neighbourhood of building 13 only if it was absolutely necessary, but now you get to know all the nooks and crannies of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and al the nice people that come along with it. But as we all know, nothing beats the Francken room. At the moment the BBD board has managed to survive the large amount of constitutie borrels in September and October and we are focusing on realizing all the necessary preparations for the upcoming events. As Mister Money it is my main responsibility that every penny that is spent, is spent wisely. But besides this responsibility I have enough time to pick up my own projects, which is one of the fun parts of being the treasurer. To give you a heads up: The Start-up competition is gonna be epic!
Furthermore, I spend my hours drinking coffee with the Francken board and the other boards and doing useful and useless stuff in our office (way up to the third floor in building 17…). Luckily, I don’t have to worry about my life becoming dull, as we have just raised the BBPre-congress committee and at the moment we are looking for members for the BBC, the Beta Business Days Committee!

The sky will turn pink
As the days get shorter and colder, I get more and more excited, since the BBD events come closer. I hope you get more excited too! But what to do against the annoying people handing out flyers at the entrance? I have only one suggestion: Brace yourselves BBD is coming
