FYSICA 2011: don’t miss it!
Posted on 21 Mar 2011FYSICA is the annual meeting of the “Nederlandse Natuurkundige Vereniging” (Dutch Physical Society, NNV), and the 2011 edition will take place on Friday April 15th at the VU in Amsterdam. The NNV celebrates its 90th anniversary this year.
FYSICA 2011 offers a varied programme for all physicists in the Netherlands, whether student or professor, in schools, industry or academia. In the plenary programme, Misha Katsnelson (Radboud Universiteit) will describe his close cooperation with Nobel prize winners Geim and Novoselov in the study of the remarkable material graphene: “Graphene: CERN on your desk”. Fabiola Gianotti (CERN), leader of the ATLAS experiment, will discuss first results of the Large Hadron Collider. Huib Bakker (AMOLF) will show that there is interesting physics to be found in water: “Ions in water: two is a crowd!”. Physica prize winner Detlef Lohse (Universiteit Twente) will give a supersonic lecture: “Supersonic air and water jets through flow focusing”. Furthermore, three young physicists will try to win the favour of the audience in the Young Speakers Contest.
