Modification of surfaces with molecular switches
Posted on 18 Mar 2011The task is to assemble on a surface molecular switches (synthesized in the group of Prof. Ben Feringa) which can be triggered by light or charges and to characterize these systems. The systems are intended to translate molecular motion to a macroscopic property change of the surface, for example hydrophilic to hydrophobic or inert to catalytically active, which can be switched reversibly at will. This is the PhD project of Oleksii Ivashenko (O.Ivashenko@rug.nl) in my group and he will be the daily supervisor of the student doing this project. The molecular films are grown by self-assembly from solution. If successful the student carrying out this project will be a co-author of the publication.
